Bill Overholt, Professor of Entomology, Indian River Research and Education Center, University of Florida, joined the UF in 2002 to initiate a program on biological control of invasive plants at the Indian River Research and Education Center in Fort Pierce. Prior to joining UF, Bill was based in Nairobi, Kenya where he worked for 12 years on biological control of invasive insects at the International Center of Insect Physiology and Ecology. Currently, his efforts are focused on exploration for natural enemies of congongrass in Africa and Asia, laboratory evaluation of candidate biological control agents of Brazilian pepper tree and release and evaluation of biological control agents of the air potato.
Mr. Overholt will be informing our visitors on: The problem of invasive plants in Florida; Biological control as a possible solution; Examples of invasive plant biological control programs with most emphasis on air potato.

Our volunteers are busy! The manatees are here almost every day and there are visitors galore. There’s something for everyone at the Manatee Center whether you enjoy being inside or out, office work or gardening. Being a people person is a must!
