UPDATE: The Manatee Center raised nearly $300 during our Mother's Day Plant Sale! These funds will be dedicated specifically to purchasing plants for the native butterfly garden being installed at the Manatee Center. Thank you to everyone who supported us, and keep an eye out for future plant sale fundraisers! :)

A [Native Butterfly] Garden Grows

The Manatee Center is proud to announce that we are beginning the installation of a native butterfly garden at the Center along Moore's Creek. In mid-March, nine volunteer students drove from Plymouth State University during their Spring Break vacation to begin installation of the garden. With support from the City of Fort Pierce and donations from Home Depot, we have transformed a grassy patch into the early stages of a mulched native butterfly garen.

We are working with a local contractor to install an ADA-accessible walkway, will host a plant sale fundraiser in time for Mother's Day, and hope to furnish the garden with stepping stones, bird bath, and bird feeder. In early June we will be installing two beautiful garden benches donated by staff from Harbor Retirement Associates in honor of Lynn Simmers and designed by renowned local mosaic artist Anita Prentice

The garden will serve as a local natural area to visit in Downtown Fort Pierce, as well as an outdoor educational area to learn about the benefits of plants and butterflies native to our region.
