Plankton Explorers! Activity Day for Kids
Saturday 27 January 2018, 02:00pm - 03:30pm
Contact Erin Lomax, Education Coordinator

Did you know that the humpback whale eats 5,000lbs of plankton EVERY DAY during the feeding season? Or that half of the oxygen we breathe here on land is produced by plankton in the ocean?

Explore the hidden world of plankton - microscopic plants and animals living in our waters - in this fun activity day for kids ages 7-12! We'll learn about what plankton is (it's more than just a character on SpongeBob!), why it's important for ocean health and then we'll head out to collect our own plankton in the lagoon with special plankton nets! Afterwards, we'll take a look at what we've found under our microscopes.

This is a fun afternoon of discovery for kids and perfect for your budding marine biologist or nature lover. Registration is required and the cost is $5 per child. You're welcome to stay with your child for the program or just drop-off. We'll be by the water for part of the day, but we won't be getting in. Snacks provided.

To register, please email Education@ManateeEducationCenter.org or call 772-466-1600 ext 3337.
